Debbie Bockhold

Congratulations to Debbie Bockhold for graduating Summa Cum Laude from the Master of Science in Health and Nutrition Education program. Debbie also holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting from California State University Fullerton. She worked as a CPA until starting her family. Her family health issues renewed her interest in nutrition. Debbie briefly worked for a holistic health practitioner who attended Hawthorn University and decided to further her knowledge by also enrolling in Hawthorn. She has been managing a nutrition based social media group for 6 years where she educates and coaches groups and individual members. The prevalence of diabetes motivated her to focus in this area and in weight management. Her thesis is entitled Intermittent Fasting Reduces Blood Glucose Levels to Normal in Patients Diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. Keep up the good work, Debbie.

Shomika Patange

Congratulations to Shomika Patange for graduating from the Master of Science in Holistic Nutrition program. Shomika earned a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology and Microbiology from the University of Central Florida. After a personal experience and research, she became interested in nutrition and naturopathic medicine. She believes in using nutrition as it focuses on the cause and not the symptom of the illness. Silencing symptoms with prescribed drugs can be deadly as it masks the injury inside the body and may come with a long list of side effects. Shomika entered Hawthorn to learn more about holistic nutrition. She wanted to know how to free the body from toxins, nourish with vitamins and minerals, and make lifestyle changes through diet. She is a person full of courage, faith, and a passion for holistic nutrition. Her thesis is entitled A Review of Evidence Elucidating the Role of Biochemical Pathways Along with Exploration of Nutrition-Based Solutions that Subdue the Inflammatory Response and its Aftermaths in Patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. Jill Maronde

Congratulations to Jill Maronde for graduating Summa Cum Laude from the Master of Science in Holistic Nutrition program. Jill also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from The University of Puget Sound, Tacoma, WA. Her passion is helping others attain optimal health and the chance to live their best lives. She enjoys inspiring and motivating her clients to make favorable changes to both their long-term eating habits and lifestyle patterns and witnessing the positive results. Jill educates her clients on the connection between a nutrient-dense, whole-foods based diet and their well-being. She focuses on balance, variety and moderation and believes that eating well is a lifestyle, not a “diet.” Jill honors each person’s biochemical individuality and is aware that no one dietary system is best for everyone. Upon graduation from Hawthorn, she intends to focus her practice in the Portland, Oregon area on children and adolescents suffering from anxiety. Her thesis is entitled A Holistic Approach to Treating Anxiety: The Case for Optimizing Nutritional Intake in Children and Adolescents Suffering from Anxiety Disorders. Allison Phillips

Congratulations to Allison Phillips for graduating Summa Cum Laude from the Nutrition Consultant certificate program. Allison earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Organization and Development from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. She joined Hawthorn to enhance her knowledge about nutrition and wellness and is now the founder of EatSmarts Nutrition in Laguna Beach, California. Instead of focusing on a specific illness or disease, Allison pays attention to mind, body, and spirit while helping her clients to make sustainable, permanent changes based on a person's biochemical individuality, health history, and personal goals. Her mission is to educate people about food, and increase their knowledge to optimize health. Allison challenges her clients to "Get ready to take control of your life". Haley Bond

Congratulations to Haley Bond (Whitley) for graduating Magna Cum Laude from the Master of Science in Holistic Nutrition program. Haley has also earned  bachelor's degrees in psychology and Spanish from Seattle University. She was introduced to nutrition while working with DirectionFive, a culinary and nutrition education program for kids. After becoming a certified DirectionFive teacher, she began teaching children’s after school and weekend cooking programs for the Corte Madera Recreation Center and the Marin Mart Farmers Market and began her nutritional consulting business, 18grains Nutrition. Haley is a co-founder of the 10 Day Health Challenge, an online program that unites people from all over the country (and beyond!) for seasonal whole foods cleanses. In addition, her work in the field led to her conducting a nutritional education workshops series. Whether it’s at a public speaking engagement, a weekend health retreat, or working with individuals in her own practice, she always strives to follow the guiding principle that optimal health begins with what we eat.
