Online Learning

This program strives to create an environment rich with ongoing support via interactive teacher-student instructional consultations. Studies are personalized to challenge students' skill levels. Assignments are designed to engage and connect students with their own communities and to develop each student's unique skills and interests in health.

Educational tools include audio lectures, textbooks, journals, web sites, diet analysis software, clinical conference calls, message boards, hands-on and community-based assignments, and individual teacher-student interaction. Additionally, Hawthorn students are invited to webinars where leaders in the field discuss current nutritional topics with students. Webinars are archived for later use by students.  Webinars are held every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month at 4 PM PST / 7 PM EST.

MSHN courses are uniquely designed to facilitate student learning and include audio lectures, dynamic interviews with professionals in clinical practice, original articles from Hawthorn University, and textbook readings. Students complete practical activities, research and written assignments, practice exercises, and other community projects. Each course concludes with a teacher-student conference and oral review via telephone. Students have the option to engage in online discussions with faculty and other students via website based message boards. Advanced level courses include participation in clinical review; students present client protocols via conference calls as well as critique peer presentations.
