Danielle Cook

Danielle Cook graduated from the Master of Science in Holistic Nutrition program with the Summa cum Laude distinction. After her son was diagnosed with cancer at age 11, Danielle launched herself to better understand which foods might best help him during treatment and then, as a cancer survivor, for life beyond. Today she runs "Cooking for Cancer," a nutrition program for young cancer patients, adolescent and young adult cancer survivors, their parents, family and caregivers at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, DC, in the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Division. She also gives regular presentations and cooking demonstrations at Inova Fairfax Children's Hospital Hematology/Oncology Division and at the Life with Cancer Center in Fairfax, Virginia. Her first book, Happily Hungry: Smart Recipes for Kids with Cancer, was released in September 2012. In addition, she has been teaching cooking classes and presenting cooking demonstrations of seasonal whole food for the U.S. Botanic Gardens in Washington, DC, Brookside Gardens in Montgomery County, MD, garden clubs and Whole Foods Market for 15 years. She has appeared on CNN with Sanjay Gupta, France24 News Network, and the Today Show. Her thesis, Nutrition in Pediatric Cancer: Physical and Psychological Needs for Proper Nutrition Education and Support for Children in Treatment, culminated her studies at Hawthorn.  Keep up the great work, Danielle!
